Once upon a time, the East Village section of 4th Avenue was New York's Book Row, a street nearly entirely given over to second hand books. The only shop keeping the 4th Ave. tradition alive is Alabaster Bookshop. It's everything you'd want a small used book store to be: cozy, overflowing with books, and home to a temperamental bookstore cat, Houle.

Your blog is wonderful.I never got the chance to visit NY, but it is one of my dreams.But I do love books and collect them since many years.So for me, your blog is a mix of two worlds I love!
Your pictures are an evocation of what NY must surely be, a place where you can find any book, meet writers, talk with people who love books as much as you do;It must be delightful to visit the town going from a bookshop to one another, finding treasures in each one...

Thank you, Mary! I must say it's quite nice to stroll from bookstore to bookstore here in New York, but I love le bouquinistes on the Left Bank, as well as the outdoor book markets. And I never miss a chance to visit the San Francisco Book Company when I'm in Paris!
